Media Misleads America on Haiti/Orphan/Baptist Affair

Most American media types are slandering millions of Baptists when they refer to the church group accused of kidnapping Haitian children simply as “baptists.”

That brush is fa-a-ar too broad, which really makes it at best grossly inadequate and at worst a huge slander of the millions of Baptists in America who are affiliated with one of the large, well-known Baptist Churches.

They should know that Baptists come in many different brands. Not trying for an exhaustive list, they include American Baptists (predominately African-American), Missionary Baptists, Primitive Baptists and, of course, the 16-million-strong Southern Baptists. The latter not only make up the largest Baptist denomination, but America’s largest protestant group.

So which of these does the group in Haiti belong to? Neither. The LandoverBaptist Church claims them!* And who ever heard of them? Apparently nobody in popular American media has taken the time to find out. It’s easier to just say Baptist. That should be enough in this era of get it quick, never mind accurate!

So what is it? More media conspiracy? Nah. Not smart enough to put broad media-wide pieces together. It’s just get something sensational out there so these simple, know-nothing people who watch us will keep coming back.

The used-to-be-sensational National Enquirer has become an amateur at it. TV news — network, cable, all of it has taken over the loose journalism front. Sadly. Beause since it’s everywhere, it leaves Americans to depend on the one that most excites, not the one that’s most right. Neither of the jumble is.
