Every politician has to have an enemy or two. If one has to make up a few, just to have someone to fight when fighting for us, one does.
It’s no wonder that Washington and state house pols can’t get along. You can’t be a Republican presidential candidate unless you attack Obama. Hard and early. And you can’t be Barack Obama without fighting the attackers. Personally or through his people. The people out here expect a fight. They’ve been primed to expect attack. They can’t be happy without it.
And this was the weekend that was, with the prime 2012 Republican candidates on display at CPAC, the Conservative Political Action Conference, and the National Governors Associatioon meeting, it was let the fighting begin. And they began. It’s gonna be a long campaign.
Perennial wannabe but afraid to be candidate, Newt Gingrich jabbed, “Barack Obama has created at least three jobs that I know of: Bob McDonnell, Chris Christie and Scott Brown,” referring to the shiny new Republican office- holders in governors’ seats in Virginia and New Jersey, and in the Senate. One after another, the jabbing continued. A lot of chatter meaning nothing.
So here’s the important question: who will win both the Rebub nomination and the presidency? Not warmed-over Romney or Santorum. Bobby Jindal of Louisiana? Not a chance! Tim Pawlenty? Just going through the motions because he’s been mentioned. Sarah Palin ranks as a laugh. Or more like a giggle. And I can’t believe Haley Barbour, the Mississipi drawler is even being mentioned.
Here’s the prediction. Only with the stipulation that he lives that long, and there’s no reason to believe he won’t: Mike Pence, the congressman from Indiana. Why? It’s simple. The best actor always wins. Issues, shmissues. They don’t matter, except to people who make a living talking and writing about them. It’s how so-called issues are handled that matters. The best actor always convinces the public that he/she can handle them best. And Pence is an experienced radio talk show host. He shows well on TV. That IS ALL that matters. .
And that’s why Mike Pence will be the next president of the United States.
