Afghani Graft? Census Bureau Waste? Brownback Reform? DuhNooz

DuhNooz rides again…

WASHINGTON (NYT) — The military’s intelligence network in Afghanistan, designed for identifying and tracking terrorists and insurgents, is increasingly focused on uncovering corruption that is rampant across Afghanistan’s government, security forces and contractors.

Now who would suspect such a thing? People we’re showering money upon are actually taking more than their share? And we did trust them so. Duh-h!

BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan (ed note: HUH?) — As violence spiraled out of control in a third day of clashes in southern Kyrgyzstan on Saturday, the Kyrgyz provisional government asked Russia to send in troops.

That’s right, people of …whatever. Your country’s just getting too tough to handle. So why not give it to Russia. Duh-h.

The following should make you proud. You thought the census bureau spent your money only on gathering vital facts on the population of America? You thought wrong. As with any good government bureau they’re capable of finding a variety of ways to employ experts at high, never-ending salaries plus pensions and benefits. And we wouldn’t have it any other way, would we?

Behold a sterling example of their highly-important work, gleaned from one of their press releases; no doubt written by an expert PR specialist:

Profile America — Sunday, June 13th. On this date in 1979, media reports highlighted the unlikely accomplishment of a young bicyclist from California. Bryan Allen flew a special aircraft across the English Channel to France — special because it had no engine. Allen supplied the power by pedaling, which turned the airplane’s propeller.

Now wasn’t that important for us all to know? And certainly worth spending our money on researching, writing and dissiminating? More important, Profile America is in its 14th year as a public service of the U.S. Census Bureau. Duh-h!

Senator Sam Brownback, the Republican from Kansas running for governor, has proposed a new Kansas  Office of the Repealer, whose job it would be to start disposing of all the silly regulations that state officials have dreamed up.

Duh-h! Wouldn’t that be all of them?

This surely cries out for Thomas Paine, who so astutely observed: “Government, even in its best state, is but a necessary evil” –The Rights of Man (1792)
